History of Holly Springs Baptist Church
Around 1800 or earlier, believers began meeting under a brush arbor not far from the present location of Holly Springs Baptist Church. Holly Springs was officially constituted in 1804, meaning a body of Christian believers has worshipped in this place for more than 200 years.
In the early years, the church members met not only in brush arbors, but also at the log cabin home of a local family, the Hogans. After the donation of 7 acres of land by Joseph Smith, the first permanent place of worship was built. Through the years, that building was replaced by church buildings constructed in 1851, 1906, and 1954-55. The building in which we have worshipped since 1955 has undergone several renovations including the last after a lightning strike and fire in July 2016.
Since its early days, Holly Springs Baptist Church has continued to grow and members of Holly Springs have looked for ways to serve others. Thus, the “mission minded” church was born. In 1873, the congregation contributed to state missions and minutes indicated that the contributions “topped any in the association.” Holly Springs continues to be mission minded today as evidenced by its contributions each year to the Cooperative Program, which supports state, North American and international mission programs. In addition, Holly Springs has many mission programs today that serve the needs of our local community (food pantry, backpack blessings among others) as well as many far reaching ministries (Operation Christmas Child, Men on Mission, and supporting missionaries from our church who have gone around the world to serve Christ).
Through the efforts of many Godly men who have pastored Holly Springs and the efforts of church members who took up the call of service to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, we continue to work to live out our mission..."Exalting Christ, Loving People, and Making Disciples."
